A lapidary definition behind the doors of which hides the maze of a culture that crosses the oceans, connects continents and islands by an invisible but powerful thread. A deeply ingrained bond that allows Africa, America, Europe, and the Caribbean to converse with each other with a language as universal as music, dance, carnivals, or ceremonies.
Spread on the globe; the different creole cultures find a point of convergence where they are all represented: New York.
In this city, where motivated by his friend photographer JR, he once gave a concert in the street, David Walters decided to set the scene for his new album.

Un disque devenu rare et possédé seulement par quelques collectionneurs avisés. Après An Ka Sonjé (2018), il revient avec J’ai Traversé La Mer.

Des titres que j’ai édités, dont j’ai parfois découpé les parties ronronnantes pour ne garder que les moments percutants. Des titres nettoyés en profondeur; restaurés en en conservant le charme et l’identité, sans gommage des aspérités ni mise à mort du son d’origine.

‘Caribbean Roots’ represents a return to his roots for Anthony Joseph, who has always
remained true to a powerful, deep-seated sense of his Caribbean identity.
Having started out as a joint project with the outstanding percussionist Roger Raspail (Cesaria Evora,Papa Wemba, Kassav), ‘Caribbean Roots’ swiftly grew into a creative force incorporating the rhythms, sounds and vibes that rock the Caribbean from San Fernando, Scarborough,Kingston and Les Abymes to Port-au-Prince and Havana. Backed by a band made up of a blend of local musicians, the album attempts to unite the different islands into a single entity whilst ensuring that the identity of each is in no way diluted by the mix,instead creating a richer and stronger alloy.
The saxophones of Shabaka Hutchings (The Heliocentrics) and Jason Yarde, the trumpet of Yvon Guillard (Magma), the bass of Mike Clinton (Salif Keita) and the trombone of Pierre Chabrèle (Creole Jazz Orchestra) all combine to form a group of Caribbean All Stars to which Andy Narrell, the master of the steel pans, brings ringing drum beats.

Nous lançons une nouvelle série qui fait suite à la compilation "Kouté Jazz". Le 1er volume concerne la réédition de l'album d'Edmony Krater et Zepiss.
Edmony Krater a été élevé au son Gwo Ka, cette percussion traditionnelle des caraïbes. Il a joué avec de nombreux musiciens antillais mais aussi Bernard Lubat et Claude Nougaro.
C'est en 1988 qu'il enregistre "Tijan Pou Velo", un hommage aux musiciens des musiques "racines". Un album a part dans les musiques antillaises.

After releasing around fifty 45 rpm singles and his first 33 rpm album (Ethiopian Modern Instrumental Hits AELP 10, re-released by Heavenly Sweetness HL092VL), Amha Esthèté set about compiling his best 45s on a series of now legendary albums (the originals are impossible to find) in 1972.
An audacious, funky outlaw, a music lover and an entrepreneur in tune with the baby-boomer generation, young Amha Esthèté (he was only twenty-four when he launched his label) will be remembered as the instigator of a peaceful revolution thick with soul and rock’n’roll.
The tracks on this first volume celebrate pioneers of modern Ethiopian groove such as Girma Bèyènè, Seyfu Yohannes, Tèshomè Meteku, Menelik Wèsnatchèw, Mulatu Astatq and Muluken Melesse, alongside Dztradi-moderndzsingers representing Amhara (Essatu Tèssèmma) and Oromo culture, so rich and so long marginalised (Abbèbè Tèssèmma and Gèmètchu Itana).

A lost treasure recorded by an American pianist in Belgium in the 70's.A record that precious little known about, but it's a truly great one! Phil Raphael is a born New Yorker, but this set was made while he was living Belgium and it features a group of players from the Brussels scene, including Johnny Peret on vibes, bells and bongo (and he gets a lot of space to shine in the set), bassis Paul Dubois, drummer Robert Pernet and vocalist Rose Thompson. The music is the right kind of unclassifably cool, with a jazziness that goes back to bebop plus airy, kind of psyche jazz informed movements, and some evocative kind of dramatic bits, courtesy Thompson's worldless vocals. Includes a pair of pretty long pieces in "Archangelo" and "Dead Sea Scrolls", plus the shorter (but still between 6 and 10 minutes) numbers "Hommage A Kabylie" and "Night Crawler".
